Conclusion with the evening's participants“Eichendorff's cycle is probably my most romantic and there is much about you in it, my dear, dear bride”, Robert Schumann wrote to his Clara in May 1840, in the midst of the legal dispute over the longed-for marriage. Despite the grueling times, Schumann's creative urge knew almost no bounds. The year 1840 goes down in his biography as the “song year” - with around 150 works, Schumann composed half of his entire song output during this time. The Liederkreis op. 39 is one of them and is one of the central cycles for both Schumann and the Romantic piano song par excellence. In the “2 x listen” format, Julian Prégardien, one of today's best Lied interpreters, will not only talk to presenter Markus Fein about his intensive study of Schumann, but will also perform the famous song cycle twice in its entirety.
