Programme
The apple didn't fall far from the tree: It was almost obvious that Alexander Gadjiev would pursue a career as a pianist - both his parents are piano teachers. But for the young musician and multiple competition winner, ‘tribe’ not only means family ties, but also geographical roots. Gadjiev comes from the Italian-Slovenian border town of Gorizia, a region where different cultures and languages have always come together. This openness of thought has also characterised the pianist. He speaks Italian, Slovenian, English, German and Russian and is no less interested in different musical ‘languages’. The programme for Gadjiev's debut at the Alte Oper also bears witness to this. In his solo recital, the pianist presents Beethoven in the mirror of Liszt and Corigliano, but also stops off at Ligeti, Chopin and Scriabin.
