‘Swinging the Boogie’ is the motto of the evening with which the Barrelhouse Jazzband returns to the Alte Oper in November. The Barrelhouse Jazzband, which has always been enthusiastic about the boogie-woogie style, is inviting its old friend, Hamburg pianist Axel Zwingenberger, to a joint concert. They have been jamming together on cruise ships since the 1980s. Since then, Axel Zwingenberger has made a worldwide career and recorded CDs with boogie legend Big Joe Turner and swing star Lionel Hampton in the USA and with blues rocker Charlie Watts in London. For this evening in the year one after the band's 70th anniversary in 2023, the Barrelhouse Jazzband is coming to the Alte Oper in its new line-up, i.e. with its ‘youngsters’ Matthias Seuffert (clarinet and saxophone) and Joachim Lösch (trumpet), who took over from Reimer von Essen and Horst Schwarz last year.
