Programme
Reinhold Messner from South Tyrol has climbed all 14 eight-thousanders and numerous other peaks on his expeditions - some of them solo - as well as trekking through the Gobi Desert and Antarctica. With his ‘Messner Mountain Foundation’, he supports people living in mountain regions around the world. He reports on his experiences in numerous books, films, lectures and his own museums and is committed to the sustainability of traditional alpinism.
February will be a real summit meeting: In addition to its philosophical content, Richard Strauss' tone-painting “Alpine Symphony” effectively depicts the composer's 1879 mountain hike to the summit of the Heimgarten and back down into the valley. Messner accompanies the work with his own texts and photographs of his mountain tours for the live performance by the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra. The extreme mountaineer and adventurer has experienced the breathtaking beauty of unspoilt alpine nature, but also many an existential experience - and is now sharing this with the audience in a very special way.
