She is one of the most remarkable female figures in European history: Empress Elisabeth of Austria. Even more than 125 years after her violent death, her self-confidence, strength, discipline and non-conformity are still fascinating. In 1992, Vereinigte Bühnen Wien staged ELISABETH, the musical written by Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay about Elisabeth's life and suffering, for the first time in Vienna. It is now regarded as the most successful German-language musical of all time.
The new spectacular open-air production in the Court of Honour at Schönbrunn Palace has already thrilled over 100,000 spectators in recent years. Now, for the first time in Germany, this version can also be admired in a large theatre version.
The semi-staged production, in which the large orchestra is placed in the centre of the stage for the first time, ensures an even stronger focus on the performers, their wonderful songs and the moving fates of their characters in combination with the star-studded main roles, naturally in original costumes.
