and other works
Mitsuko Uchida makes no secret of what her musical heart beats for most: ‘Every day of my life that I get to play Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and also the music of our time - for me, that is a gift from somewhere. If there is a heaven, then it is heaven.’ The pianist has a close relationship with Viennese classical music and German-Austrian piano literature in general. She has already demonstrated this regularly at the Alte Oper and returns here again this season with two important works by Beethoven and Schubert. The former heralded his late sonata oeuvre with his Sonata op. 90, while the latter completed his creative life with his Sonata in B flat major: Schubert died two months after the premiere of this stirring work at the age of just 31.
