A simple radio set can bring worlds into the living room - and open up new ones. Giuseppe Bruno, a 16-year-old Sicilian who came to Höchst in 1963 as a so-called ‘guest worker’, knew this. He soon took out a loan to buy a radio so that he could learn German better with the help of the language courses on the radio. Until his death, Giuseppe Bruno was committed to promoting understanding and friendship between Germans and migrants. In the first salon, the story of the young Italian and his radio is combined with music from his old homeland: Sicilian singer Etta Scollo tells of the past and present of her island in her songs.
