Alte Oper Campus: KIENZLE’S CLASSIC
Bruckner and the counterpoint of the fantastic. A music seminar for the inquisitive with Dr Ulrike KienzleFree admission, admission with ticket for the evening concert
‘Anton Bruckner's symphonies are mighty monoliths and yet they soar weightlessly into heavenly spheres,’ say the Berliner Philharmoniker and are happy to use Bruckner's 200th birthday in 2024 as an opportunity to focus on Bruckner for two seasons. In the 2023/24 season, they will initially leave the baton to esteemed guest conductors before the chief conductor himself takes over the baton in the 2024/25 season. They are bringing Bruckner's monumental Fifth Symphony to Frankfurt, the work that the composer described as his ‘contrapuntal masterpiece’ for good reason. He was referring above all to the grandiose final movement, whose double fugue shows how confidently Bruckner mastered counterpoint and at the same time created gripping music.
