Alte Oper Campus: KIENZLE’S CLASSIC
Dvořák and the magic of the Bohemian landscape. A music seminar for the inquisitive with Dr Ulrike KienzleFree admission, admission with ticket for the evening concert
‘Family is very important to us,’ says Arthur Jussen. ‘We grew up in a family where there was always a lot of love and a lot of music. We are very grateful that we can make music together.’ It is therefore all the more fitting that he and his brother Lucas should tackle a work that also testifies to a close sibling relationship in which music played an important role: Felix Mendelssohn was just 14 years old when he composed a concerto for two pianos for his sister Fanny's birthday that was entirely in keeping with their relationship - sometimes lively, sometimes intimate, always warm. And thus a perfect match for the optimism of Antonín Dvořák's Eighth Symphony, which the Gewandhaus Orchestra, conducted by its chief conductor Andris Nelsons, brings to a close at the Alte Oper.
