Conclusion with the evening's participantsNon-conformist, subversive and humorous - that's how you could describe Dutch composer Mayke Nas. She playfully undermines every audience expectation and spices up her music with absurd nonsense instructions, and this should also apply to her new piece for the Ensemble Modern. The African-American Jeffrey Mumford originally wanted to become a painter and is still inspired by visual impressions today. In his concertante ensemble piece ‘through a stillness brightening’, he makes silence glow with delicate brushstrokes. Anyone who knows Georg Friedrich Haas knows that his music can make you lose your grip. The likelihood of this happening in his new ensemble piece ‘... weiter und weiter und weiter ...’ is certainly quite high. It is inspired by dark childhood experiences and exposes its listeners to a relentlessly urgent stream of sound that is difficult to escape.
