Alte Oper Campus: KIENZLE’S CLASSIC
Mahler and the courage of the Titan. A music seminar for the inquisitive with Dr Ulrike KienzleAdmission free, admission with ticket for the evening concert
‘The slow movement from Dvořák's violin concerto is one of the most beautiful in the entire concerto literature. It really is the heart of the work!’ says Joshua Bell about the Adagio from the composer's only contribution to the genre. After all, according to the violinist, Dvořák was simply good at ‘writing melodies with soul’. It may be due to his Bohemian roots that Dvořák not only incorporated elements of folk music into his works, but also vocal lines with emotional depth. Bohemian music certainly sets the tone for an evening with a star-studded cast. The Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia frames Dvořák's violin concerto with music by Gustav Mahler. After all, Mahler's roots also lie in Bohemian-Moravian music, as the third movement of his first symphony testifies.
