The same tasks can lead to different correct solutions. One of these tasks, which conductor Philippe Herreweghe has already solved convincingly on several occasions, is a coherent interpretation of Monteverdi's Vespers of the Blessed Virgin. Composed in 1610, the “Vespro della Beata Vergine” poses particular challenges for interpreters. Not only because it is necessary to do justice to an ingenious vocal work that gave new scope to emotional expression in its time. But also because the score leaves a great deal of freedom, but also demands decisions. Herreweghe and his ensembles have already broken down this cosmos between stile antico and stile moderno twice in acclaimed recordings. Four decades after his first recording, he is coming to Frankfurt with his Ghent musicians to once again devote himself to this exceptional work from a historically informed perspective.
