Schönberg and the transformations of the night. A music seminar for the curious with Dr Ulrike KienzleFree admission, admission with ticket for the evening concert (limited seating capacity)
The new bond has been sealed since the summer of 2022, but it will come to life at the start of this season: when Daniele Gatti takes up his post as the new Principal Conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden in August, a new chapter will begin in the orchestra's 450-year success story. ‘The character and treasures of the Saxon orchestra are in good hands with him, and he will also initiate new accents and programmatic developments,’ the decision-makers in Dresden are certain - especially as they know and appreciate each other from more than 20 years of happy collaboration.
The inaugural concert in Dresden has barely been completed when the orchestra and conductor set off for Frankfurt to ceremoniously open the season at the Alte Oper. In their luggage are two works that are indebted to the classical-romantic tradition and yet herald the dawn of new times: Arnold Schönberg's string sextet ‘Verklärte Nacht’ in the version for string orchestra and Gustav Mahler's First Symphony.
The evening is festively framed for the opening of the season: the first sounds welcome the audience in the Opera Square, and after the concert everyone is invited to the Clara Schumann Foyer, where the Apollo5 vocal ensemble will bring the evening to a relaxed close with folk, jazz and pop.
