Where we are haeding?

Future house

The rapid pace of change in the world motivates us to actively shape our future as a concert hall - today! With a passion for experimentation and openness to new ideas, we develop exciting ideas, formats and listening experiences for our colourful and modern city.

Innovative Concert Formats

With innovative concert formats, the Alte Oper aims to offer audiences new musical experiences, activate listening, seek creative dialogue with other art forms and link classical music to the urban present.

Living a utopia: Fratopia

A whole festival dedicated to the house of the future: Fratopia is an open programme for an open society. The festival is a heartfelt invitation to people - young and old, rooted in Frankfurt or elsewhere, with an affinity for classical music or simply interested and open-minded - to wander between concert halls and genres and experience music in a new way. Five days of a full programme, free for all!

To remember: The next Fratopia Festival will take place from 16 to 20 September 2025.

cultural participation

The ‘Alte Oper House of the Future’ is not an aloof temple of music. Rather, all the people of the city, with their different biographies, opportunities and preferences, should find themselves reflected in the programme of our house. Even, and perhaps even more so, those who have only known the Alte Oper from the outside. Come and join us: as a concert newcomer, as a musician, during your lunch break or in the evening.

Urban dialogue

In the ‘House of the Future’, the Alte Oper is reconnecting with the city, working into the city, reaching out to the people. We are already demonstrating this with projects such as ‘Alte Oper InsideOut’ - the broadcast of a concert from inside onto the opera square -, with our ‘Musik Plus’ format, in which we collaborate with Frankfurt cultural institutions, and with the ‘Auswärtsspiel’ programme. We are intensifying our relationship work with international communities and working closely with the City of Frankfurt's Office for Multicultural Affairs. We are in dialogue with pupils, senior citizens, migrants and volunteers as representatives of the city's pluralistic society.

Digital communication

Our core business remains undoubtedly analogue! There is no substitute for the direct experience of a concert, straight to your ears. But we want to connect with you more digitally in the future. You can already take advantage of our digital music mediation, such as our post-listening/post-reading mailings for individual concert series or the Salon film reviews.
